Q) From a solid right circular cylinder of height 14 cm and base radius 6 cm, a right circular cone of same height and same base radius is removed. Find the volume of the remaining solid.

Ans:

Step 1: ∵ Volume of the cylinder = π  r 2 h

For cylinder, radius = 6 cm and height = 14 cm   (given)

∴ Cylinder’s volume = π × (6)2 × 14 = π × 36 × 14 = 504 π cm3

Step 2: ∵ Volume of the cone = \frac{1}{3} π r 2 h

For cone, radius = 6 cm and height = 14 cm   (given)

∴ Removed cone’s volume = \frac{1}{3} π (6)2 (14) = 168 π cm3

Step 3: ∵ Volume of remaining solid = Cylinder volume – removed cone’s volume

= 504 π – 168 π

= 336 π = 336 x \frac{22}{7}

= 48 x 22 = 1056 cm3

Therefore, the volume of remaining solid is 1056 cm3
