Q) Two dice are rolled together bearing numbers 4, 6, 7, 9, 11, 12. Find the probability that the product of numbers obtained is an odd number

Ans:

The numbers on each dice are 4, 6, 7, 9, 11, 12.

∴ Total possible outcomes = 6 x 6 = 36

To get product of 2 numbers as an odd number, both numbers should be odd

Therefore, such possibilities are:

7 x 7, 7 x 9, 7 x 11,

9 x 7, 9 x 9, 9 x 11,

11 x 7,Β  11 x 9, 11 x 11

∴ possible number of favorable outcomes = 9

Now the probability = \frac{favorable~outcomes}{Total~outcomes}

= \frac{9}{36} = \frac{1}{4}

Therefore, the probability of product being an odd number is \frac{1}{4}.
