Q) Write first four terms of the A.P. when the first term a and the common difference d are given as follows
(v) a = – 1.25, d = – 0.25

Ans: Since we need to form AP consisting of first 4 terms, let’s start from formula for nth term.

The nth term of an AP, a_n = a + (n - 1) d

here, a = first term

n = value of the term

d = common difference

Lets start putting value of a and d for different values of n and get the desired terms of AP.

First term, a_1 = - 1.25 + (1 - 1) (- 0.25) = - 1.25

Similarly, Second term, a_2 = - 1.25 + (2 - 1) (- 0.25) = - 1.25 - 0.25 = - 1.50

Third term, a_3 = - 1.25 + (3 - 1) (- 0.25) = - 1.25 - 0.5 = - 1.75

and Fourth term, a_4 = -1.25 + (4 - 1) (- 0.25) = - 1.25 - 0.75 = - 2.00

Therefore, the Arithmetic progression with a = − 1.25, d = – 0.25 is  − 1.25, − 1.50, − 1.75, − 2.00, ….. and its first 4 terms are − 1.25, − 1.50, − 1.75, – 2.00.
