Q) The monthly incomes of A and B are in the ratio 8 : 7 and their expenditures are in the ratio 19 : 16. If each saves 2500 per month, find the monthly income of each.

Ans:

Let the income of A and B be 8 X and 7 X

Since Saving = Income – Expenditure

or we can say, Expenditure = Income – Savings

Given that saving of both person is 2500

hence, expenditure of A = 8 X – 2500

and expenditure of B = 7 X – 2500

Since the ratio expenditures is given as 19 : 16,

Therefore \frac{8 X - 2500}{7X - 2500} = \frac{19}{16}

∴ 16 (8X – 2500) = 19 (7X – 2500)

∴ 128 X – 16 x 2500 = 133 X – 19 x 2500

∴ 19 x 2500 – 16 x 2500 = 133 X – 128 X

∴  2500 (19- 16) = 5 X

∴ 5 X = 7500

∴ X = 1500

Therefore the income of A = 8 X = 8 x 1500 = 12000

and income of B = 7 X = 7 x 1500 = 10500

Therefore the incomes of A and B are 12000 and 10500 respectively.
