Q) Write first four terms of the A.P. when the first term a and the common difference d are given as follows
(iii) a = 4, d = − 3

Ans: Since we need to form AP consisting of first 4 terms, let’s start from formula for nth term.

The nth term of an AP, a_n = a + (n - 1) d

here, a = first term

n = value of the term

d = common difference

Lets start putting value of a and d for different values of n and get the desired terms of AP.

First term, a_1 = 4 + (1 - 1) (- 3) = 4

Similarly, Second term, a_2 = 4 + (2 - 1) (- 3) = 4 -3 = 1

Third term, a_3 = 4 + (3 - 1) (- 3) = 4 - 6 = - 2

and Fourth term, a_4 = 4 + (4 - 1) (- 3) = 4 - 9 = - 5

Therefore, the Arithmetic progression with a = 4, d = – 3 is  4, 1, – 2, – 5, ….. and its first 4 terms are 4, 1, – 2, – 5.
